Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel says he remains focused and committed on gaining back his place in the Chelsea squad, despite being constantly overlooked by manager, Antonio Conte.
The arrival of former Leicester City midfielder, N’Golo Kante, has seen the Super Eagles’ skipper frozen out of Conte’s squad but the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations hero says he will fight for his place.
The last time Mikel featured for the Stanford Bridge outfit was in their 8-0 win over Atus Ferlach in a pre-season game in Austria.
He was on target for Chelsea in that encounter.
Mikel said via his Twitter handle yesterday, “Fighting every day for my place, like all the guys are. Focus, work hard.”
The midfielder expressed joy over his club’s convincing display in the 4-0 win over Manchester United at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
It did not take the Blues more than 30 seconds to score the quickest goal of the Premier League season through Spain forward, Pedro before Gary Cahill doubled the home side’s advantage with a close-range finish.
Belgium star, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante scored one each to put the game beyond the visitors.
The win saw Chelsea move up to fourth place on the Premier League log.
Mikel added, “Well done to the boys yesterday, amazing performance, result and atmosphere.”
