– Aisha Buhari says Nigeria must cherish, nurture strong family values
– Her comments came just days after her husband, President Buhari, said that his wife belongs to the kitchen and ‘the other room’
The wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has said on October 24, that family values should be appreciated and encouraged to prevail over the challenges of poverty and crime in the country.
Mrs Buhari gave the advice in Lagos while opening the three-day 16th National Women Conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).
According to the president’s wife, represented by the wife of the Imo state Governor, Nneoma Okorocha, love, support, friendship and guidance were the major qualities necessary in the family.
She said: “ We must continue to emphasise the importance of strong family values.
“Poverty, crime and declining school performance are some of the challenges a country could face when families are not cohesive,” she said.
“The conference also provides a forum for women to deliberate on issues that affect us, our families, communities and the nation at large.
“Our core concern should be how we can make a positive impact on ourselves as women and our society.”
Aisha Buhari in her latest interview to the BBC Hausa has openly questioned her husband’s work and said she may not support him if he runs again.
President Muhammadu Buhari
laughed off her comments, saying: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”
