The chairman Chibok local government, Hon. Yaga Yarakawa, has debunked statements that Chibok schoolgirls were unwilling to return back home.
Speaking exclusively to Leadership on Thursday, October 20, Yarakawa said that he was positive that the remaining abducted girls are not married out by their captors and will return back home safely.
He described the reports as “rumours” adding that the statement was false and baseless adding that the report should be disregarded.
‘’The recent statement that the Chibok girls in captivity will not come back to their parents because they are married out by their captors is not true.
‘’The rumours is false and unfounded. Whatsoever source the news is emanating from should be disregarded,” he said.
The chairman Chibok local government however guaranteed that President Muhammadu Buhari will do everything possible to make sure that the girls are freed and reunited with their families.
Earlier reports stated that the chairman of the Chibok development association, Pogu Bitrus, disclosed that more than 100 of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls are unwilling to leave their captors.
According to Daily Mail, he said they were embarrassed to return home because they were forced to marry extremists and have their babies.
However, a recent report states that the federal government is negotiating the release of another 83 of the Chibok schoolgirls taken in a mass abduction .
Recall that 21 out of the over 200 girls abducted from Chibok, Borno State in 2014, were released by Boko Haram insurgents.
