Drug traffickers arrested in Ebonyi




– The National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 98 people for their alleged involvement in illicit drugs

– The agency said 37 of the suspects have been successfully prosecuted and jailed by and others are still at various stages of investigation

The National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ebonyi state command has arrested 98 people for their alleged involvement in illicit drugs since January 2016, Premium Times reports.

Ralph Igwenagu, the state commander of the agency, disclosed this in his office in Ntezi Ishielu local government of the state.

He said: “Thirty-seven suspects have been successfully prosecuted and sent to prison, and others are in various stages of prosecution .Majority of the suspects were men but there are few cases of women involvement, we are determined to rid the state of illicit drug consumption”.

The state commander said the agency would not relent in its effort to combat dealers of fake drugs in the state, adding that it is a risk for anybody to indulge in illicit drugs.

Igwenagu who appealed to the public to always volunteer information to the agency assured that the agency would protect the identity of such volunteers.

In a related development, two suspected drug-traffickers, Edos Nicholas and Hallowell Prince Lovely have been arrested by operatives of the NDLEA after they were caught with €325,640 and $30,000, which is about N175 million.

The duo was arrested while trying to smuggle the hard currency into Nigeria from Greece and Austria through Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
