Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has described former Abia state governor Chief Orji Uzor Kalu as a political asset, The Punch reports.
According to Okorocha, the defection of Kalu to the All Progressives Congress is a good development not only for the party but also for the South-East geopolitical zone.
Governor Rochas Okorocha says Chief Orji Uzor Kalu is a political asset
Okorocha made this statement, on Monday, November 21, in Owerri through a release by Sam Onwuemeodo, his chief press secretary.
According to the release, “Orji Kalu, as an illustrious Igbo son, is a political asset any political party would like to have in its fold.
“With men like Orji Uzor Kalu joining me in APC, we will develop Igboland under APC as the ruling party.”
He urged other frontline politicians in the South-East to follow the Orji Kalu’s example and expressed the joy that Igbo political leaders had begun to respond positively to his call.
But in a swift response, the Abia state chapter of Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA) applauded the exit of the party’s founder Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, describing his defection to All Progressives Congress (APC) “as a movement of a confusionist who has lost focus in his political pursuit.”
The party claimed that Orji Kalu’s defection was of no consequence to it as “the-party had already served him a sack letter for his numerous anti-party activities.”
Speaking at a briefing in Umuahia, Abia state, Chief Emeka Okafor,
chairman of the party, said the action was an afterthought to save his face, having been expelled by the party in the state.
Recall that ex-governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu formally joined the APC on Wednesday, November 16.
