The International Criminal Court, ICC, has confirmed that it received a petition against former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, over alleged hate speech.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, had before the general elections in 2015, sent a petition against Jonathan to the ICC headquarters, accusing her of making inciting comments.
ICC said though no investigation had been opened in Nigeria, it was considering the petition.
The ICC said, “To clarify, no investigations have been opened in Nigeria yet. The office is very much committed to this file, which is still at a preliminary examination stage.
“The purpose of the preliminary examination is to determine whether legal criteria for opening investigations are met in Nigeria”, the court told The Punch.
Meanwhile, Niger Delta militants have vowed to resume attacks on more oil installations if the federal government does not stop its prosecution of Patience Jonathan and a former militant leader, Tompolo.
